DRIVER & DEPOT OF THE YEAR FINALISTS 2007

FPS 2007 DEPOT OF THE YEAR AWARD sponsored by QBE Insurance

For Roger Mead, Manager of the Mitchell & Webber Redruth depot, winning the FPS Depot of the year competition came as a reward for the team effort that all his staff had put in.

“It’s quite an accolade for all of us” said Roger. “It’s about finding the balance between being productive and profitable, and keeping the safety systems and paperwork in good order.”

Outside his pleasure of winning the award, Roger is a big advocate of the FPS Depot Certification Scheme. “I strongly recommend the FPS Depot Certification Scheme to other distributor, particularly independents. You might think you’re there with your systems and safety, but it’s reassuring to have someone come along from the outside, have a good look around and tell you that you are. At the end of the day, we’re dealing with dangerous products. It’s easy to be complacent,” he said.

If you would like to know more about the FPS Depot Certification Scheme, and how you can get a 50% discount on the cost*, please call the FPS on +44 (0)1565 631313.

FPS 2007 DRIVER OF THE YEAR sponsored by OAMPS (UK) LTD

Robert Webster has been driving six-wheelers for CPL Wrexham for the last 19 years. Thought he has had a varied career, there has always been a thread running through – from being a restaurant cook in Chester to cooking in the Merchant Navy. Then, instead of cooking potatoes, he started delivering them, eventually changing his delivery load to kerosene and derv.

Averaging around 1000Km a week, Robert covers North Wales, Wirral, Shropshire and Cheshire – from factories and farms to a Friday routine of delivering boats on the River Dee.

With his years of experience, he can certainly teach the new recruits a thing or two – not least about how to avoid dogs and how to find missing oil tanks. “We’ve had some challenges in finding tanks,” he says. “People do like to hide them. You might spot me now and then walking through a garden looking into the bushes or under the decking! One thing you can be certain of is your day won’t turn out anything like you expected!”

Robert is planning on spending his prize money on a family holiday and paying someone else to do up the motorbike he’s been meaning to finish for ages.
